Whitehaven have continued their recruitment from the local amateur scene with a fourth signing announced today.
Utility back Jack Newbegin from National Conference League side Millom is the latest arrival at the Ortus Rec.
Newbegin is comfortably at home in either the full back or half back roles and is a former England Community Lion having represented the Under 19s in 2022 and scored two tries and six goals in nine appearances for the Millom outfit in 2024.
Whitehaven head coach Anthony Murray has both played and coached at the community club and will have done his homework.
Murray said: “Jack is another young Cumbrian talent who comes from the one of the longest-serving Cumbrian clubs in history.
“Millom club has produced a string of international players and professional players over many years and hopefully Jack is another talent emerging from this great club.
“Jack has spent time out in Oz and some time at Salford reserves and hopefully will take the next step at League One and keep progressing as a player.
“He can play fullback and half-back so will add some competition in those positions.”
It’s been a busy week with Kells pair Clarke Chambers and Carl Garner, along with Hensingham’s Jack Kellett all signed up for a fast changing Whitehaven squad.
