New bus timetables are set to launch in Cumberland next month.
Stagecoach has been working with Cumberland Council to improve services in the district.
They announced the £2.5 million partnership in August and the authority pledged bus services would be transformed as it rolled out the first phase of an improvement plan.
Cumberland Council said it had developed strategies to revamp and expand services, working with travel firm Stagecoach.
From Monday, November 4, the following improvements will begin:
- Route 60: Silloth – Maryport: the council is reintroducing this service between key towns.
- Route 64: Rockcliffe – Durdar: the council is restoring and improving this service.
- Route 300: Workington – Carlisle: enjoy increased frequency with buses, every 30 minutes.
- Route 30: Egremont / Frizington – Maryport – Sunday: The services will now run every 30 minutes.
- Route M1: Millom Town Service – including Haverigg: this is the reintroduction of this service, which will strengthen community connections and boost local engagement. It aims to create a more interconnected and vibrant community.
- Route 22: Cleator Moor – Cleator – West Cumberland Hospital: this bus route will provide dependable transport to essential services, with a special focus on accommodating passengers with mobility needs. The council said it was committed to enhancing access, including extended visitor hours at the hospital, ensuring everyone can benefit from reliable and inclusive transportation.
- Route 217: Lamplugh, Arlecdon and Frizington and Dean Parish Councils so that the Frizington – Lamplugh – Dean – Cockermouth: have also been extended until March 2025, with additional funding supplied by Cumberland Council.
People are asked to give their feedback on the improvements and suggest future bus routes.
A survey is available to fill in here or printed copies can be found at libraries and at Allerdale House in Workington and Cumbria House and the Civic Centre in Carlisle.
The survey will run until Friday 6 December.
Council officers will also attend the following community panels to discuss bus services:

- Thursday November 14 – Fells and Solway Community Panel – noon – 2.30pm – Kirkbampton Village Hall
- Tuesday November 26 – Border Fellside and North Carlisle Network Event – 6pm – 8pm – Scotby Village Hall
The council is also exploring the possibility of holding additional meetings at locations across the area and people are asked to send suggestions to [email protected]
Cumberland Councillor Denise Rollo, executive member for sustainable, resilient and connected places, said: “We are thrilled to announce these new bus routes.
“Working closely with Stagecoach, local members, and community stakeholders, we have crafted strategies to revitalise and expand bus services.
“We now need the public’s help to ensure we get it right, so please complete the survey, which will take less than five minutes to complete.
“Our goal is to deliver a reliable and accessible network that truly connects our communities, making it easier for everyone to travel.”
