Carlisle City manager Dan Kirkup has boosted his squad by signing two players from Workington Reds.
Kirkup promised new arrivals after his side’s dismal show on Tuesday when they lost 6-0 at Shildon in Northern League Division One.
Experienced goalkeeper Jonny Jamieson, 34, and 19-year-old forward Ben McCarron will be in the squad for Saturday’s home League clash with Seaham Red Star.
“I was really down after that game, concerned about the lack of commitment. It was a real low after such a high on Saturday with the Vase win at Gainsborough.
“How we played for that Vase win is what I want them to be like, but I question some players’ commitment to football these days,” he said.
Jamieson has played for Penrith, Gretna, Annan and Workington but has been out of the game for some time after suffering a serious injury.
He joined Reds in pre-season but is effectively third keeper behind Alex Mitchell and Danny Eccles.
McCarron joined Reds this season from Cleator Moor Celtic where he had gained a reputation as a promising goal-scorer.
He has been limited to the odd appearance from the bench so far with Mark Fell’s team but he did come on and scored the winner in a League game against Hebburn.
City found out on Wednesday that they will meet Carlisle United in the second round of the Fred Conway County Cup.
United fielded a young side against an equally youthful Workington Juniors side and won 2-0 in a tie played at Gillford Park.
Freddie O’Donoghue scored in the first ten seconds and Trent Chapman added the second soon after half-time.
No date for the second round tie has been announced yet.
