Current Keswick all-rounder Paul Hindmarch has been appointed as the new head coach for the Cumbria senior men’s team.
Hindmarch, 36, has played for Carlisle, Cockermouth and hometown Keswick in the Cumbria League’s Premier Division.
He also played for Durham 2nds in his early days as well as the Unicorn X1.
His new role also involves working with team captain Michael Slack, of Carlisle Cricket Club, on the county’s development squad.
Hindmarch – who will continue to play senior 1st XI cricket and coach juniors for Keswick Cricket Club – is delighted at the appointment and said he was looking forward immensely to the 2025 season at county level and with his hometown club.
“I’m really chuffed at getting this job,” he said. “There are some exciting young players in the county, and it will be fantastic to be involved at senior county performance level and in the further development of some great young players as we strive to take the county side forward in national competition.”
Hindmarch, who holds the ECB (England Cricket Board) level four coaching qualification, also has ambitious plans for developing a cricket academy.
An explosive batsman, who can certainly pepper the boundaries, and an accomplished bowler Hindmarch has played over 30 times for Cumberland at all the formats.
In a double appointment former Cumberland skipper Martin Lewis has been named as the new chairman of cricket.
Lewis, 55, is based in Durham but the Barrow-born former all-rounder spends a lot of time in the county and is keen to make an impression in his new role.
He played over 70 times for Cumberland after making his debut in 1999 in a List A game against Cornwall in the first round of the Nat West Trophy.
He played 44 Minor Counties Championship games and scored 1,074 runs with a top score of 128 not out. His best bowling return was 5-33 as he claimed 57 Championship wickets.
