Deer Orchard

Deer Orchard and Northside won again in the West Cumberland Sunday League, but there was a setback for rivals Dearham.

It looks to be a three-way battle for the title now with all of the contenders dropping points along the way.

Dearham drew for the second time when they were held 2-2 by Lowca Pirates after trailing by a single goal at the break.

In the end Dearham were grateful for an own goal for the point with Danny Dryden also on target. Travis Fyfe and Oliver and Oliver Todd netted for the Pirates.

Deer Orchard were expecting a tough contest at Moresby Rangers, who can be difficult opponents at home, but the Cockermouth side went away with the points from a 5-2 victory.

Sam Wright (2), Luke Graham (2) and Jayden Fulton scored the Orchard goals with Jamie Martin and James Bell the scorers for Moresby.

Reigning champions Northside added to Parkside’s problems with a 9-0 romp which leaves the Sunday County Cup holders third bottom.

Northside have had changes to make themselves this season with a few retirements and new players to bed in but they seem to have made the transition well after early teething problems.

Max Litt (2), Chad Grisedale (2), Harry Watson, Tommy Whitehead, Jack Nixon, Logan Bosward and Callum Killick were the goal-scorers.

There were plenty of goals in four Division One games, with Salterbeck and King’s Arms sharing eight of them.

Liam Currier (2), Dave Watson and Charlie Shaw netted for Salterbeck while Kieran Fraser, Jordan Baird, Luke Elliot and Jack Fitzpatrick earned a point for King’s Arms.

Thornhill moved ahead of King’s Arms on goal difference at the top after they beat Swan 4-0.  Harry Hodgson, Andrew Begbie, Nathan Dryden and Ben Mahaffy supplied the goals.

The Sun were 6-1 winners against Whitehaven Amateurs Development as Daniel Hill led the way with four. He was joined on the score-sheet by Hayden Whitingham and Dylan Penn. Jenson Irving replied for the Development side.

There was a tight game at Workington where Borough Miners were just edged out 2-1 by Royal Oak. Jonathan Cashman had given Miners a half-time lead but the Oak came back to win it with two goals from Connor Buck.

There was one game in the Albert Murphy Trophy which incredibly produced 15 goals.

Zebras came out on top 11-4 against Sun Inn Athletic with goals from Josh Patterson (4), Karl Fillingham (2), Daniel Little, Brad Heaton, Dylan Turner, Matthew Graham and Michael Herbert.

The Athletic responded through Mark Campbell (2), Liam Day and Michael Prescott.

  • Division One – Borough Miners v Whitehaven Development; King’s Arms v Swan; Senhouse Street v Zebras.
