The Queen of the West End has praised a West Cumbrian theatre – and said the audience there were the best so far of her tour.
Kerry Ellis, best known for starring roles in London and Broadway, was performing at Workington’s Carnegie Theatre as part of her Queen of the West End tour this week.
Kerry, who has also recorded a chart-topping album, called the Finkle Street venue a gem as she wowed the audience with songs from the shows.
Elizabeth Hodgson, a Carnegie Theatre trustee, watched the show.
“It’s wonderful that we’re able to attract West End stars such as Kerry Ellis to our theatre. She’s performed in so many musicals across the years and had some great tales to tell – and of course the music was fantastic.
“Kerry really seemed to love the Carnegie and the audience – who all enthusiastically joined in singing when invited to do so – and has promised to come back soon!”
A young West Cumbrian also got the chance to perform with Kerry.
Amber Hooper, from Sing Stars Singing School, took the stage as part of the show.
The Carnegie said: “With confidence and professionalism, Amber shone in front of a packed audience. Amber made us all proud with her amazing performance.
“We at the Carnegie Theatre are incredibly proud of Amber, as are her friends and mentors at Sing Stars Singing School and Performing Arts Carlisle College. This is just the beginning of a very bright future, and we can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes!”
