Workington Reds were well worth their point in the 2-2 draw at FC United of Manchester in the NPL Premier Division.
Indeed Mark Fell’s side dominated the second-half and had enough opportunities to win the game.
In the end they needed an 88th minute penalty, successfully dispatched by top-scorer Steven Rigg, to gain their point.
That was Rigg’s 12th goal of the season and his 11th had given Reds the lead as early as the sixth minute. He was on the end of a Kai Nugent free-kick to head home from close range.
The problem for manager Mark Fell is that it seems only to be Rigg whose finding the back of the opposition net, and he needs more players to be chipping in with goals.
But, having said that, it was the way Reds came back from an unfortunate 2-1 deficit at half-time to dominate the second-half which pleased the manager the most.
The home side had drawn level on 17 minutes when a shot from Matthew Grivosti seem to have been covered by Alex Mitchell but Jordan Buckley stuck out a foot and diverted it past the wrong-footed Reds keeper.
FC United went in front on 32 minutes, again through a slice of luck. A Reds clearance hit Theo Farquharson and the ball was squared to Adam La Fondre who shot home into the bottom corner.
It had been an even first-half but Reds found themselves behind at the break before putting together a hugely encouraging second-half.
Young Ruben Grewal, the former Wigan Athletic midfielder, was excellent on debut and picked up man of the match nominations while Efe Ambrose put in another solid display at the back.
