Gritters have been out in force overnight as the temperature has dropped in Cumbria.
Westmorland & Furness Council said its crews had been out and covered the entire 840-mile priority network – equivalent from driving to Kendal to Zurich.
It said road temperatures were forecast to drop as low as -4.4 degrees.
The authority added: “A huge thank you to the crews who tackled the sub-zero temperatures into the early hours of the morning. They continue to closely monitor the forecast and are ready to spring into action where required.”
