44 players battle it out in Marras & Arras competition

Nigel Kay Homes Ltd Development Series Champion Robert Atkinson

The finals of the Marras and Arras’ Speed Competitions Ranking Series saw 44 players take part in the best of one leg round robin at St Begh’s Social Centre.

Once again Jack Pollard rose to the occasion wining the night to add to his league stage victory.

The top two players from the groups had progressed to the knockouts and the rest dropped into the plate competition.

Quarter finals

  • Darren Bellard 3:1 Colin Hargrave
  • Nick Twinn 3:0 Olly Murphy
  • Jimmy Clucas 3:2 Nathan Lowrey
  • Jack Pollard 3:2 William Crossley

Semi finals

  • Darren Bellard 3:0 Nick Twinn
  • Jack Pollard 3:1 Jimmy Clucas

Final

  • Jack Pollard 4:3 Darren Bellard 

Despite a slow start in the group stages Simon McCall won the plate competition with a 3-2 victory over Owen Adair in the final.

Meanwhile the final event of the Nigel Kay Homes Development Series took place at Moor Row Working Men’s Club.

Robert Atkinson went into the day one point behind Paul Branthwaite in the table and needed to better Paul’s result on the day to win the series.

Event 11 winner Joe Richards

Unfortunately, perhaps, the finale most were looking for didn’t happen as Paul crashed out in the group stage and with Robert topping his group this sealed the deal and crowned him series champion.

On the day it was Joe Richards who won the event with a 3-1 victory over Ryan Pearson in the final.

  • Robert Atkinson 3:0 Chris Ward
  • Ryan Pearson 3:2 Dan Hodgson

Semi finals

  • Ryan Pearson 3:2 Robert Atkinson

Final

  • Joe Richards 3:1 Ryan Pearson

With the end of the series now reached the organisers have thanked series sponsor Nigel Kay Homes Ltd, along with Event Sponsors, P&A Cars Taxi Service, Clean As A Whistle Cumbria, JLM Motors, Jinx Tattoo Studio and Masher & Lesley Murphy.

A spokesman added: “Thanks also goes to Board & Equipment Sponsors, Graves & Telfer Construction, Sian Price Creative, Forth Engineering and the  Moor Row Club.

“Finally we would like to express our gratitude to all of the players new and old who have supported the series over the course of the year.”
