Workington Comets have re-signed their Flying Finn, Antti Vuolas for the 2025 Championship season.
Vuolas, who is a Workington asset, made his UK debut in 2024 with the GT Tyres-sponsored Comets and enjoyed a successful debut season.
His form for the Comets secured him his first chance at top flight Premiership speedway with the Belle Vue Aces – helping them to win the Premiership league title along the way.
The 25-year-old from Finland, was crowned Mr Entertainer of the Year at the End of Season Awards night a few weeks ago. It wasn’t difficult to see why either with some of his breathtaking rides from the back throughout the season.
Vuolas was signed to follow in the tyre tracks of two popular Finnish riders who starred for the Comets, Kauko Nieminen and Tero Aarnio, and he has certainly built on their legacies.
He will rejoin his 2024 team-mate Tate Zischke and link-up with new recruit Vinnie Foord for the 2025 Championship season, as the first three signings have been announced for next season.
Workington Speedway promoter Andrew Bain said: “I’m sure many of our fans will be chuffed that Antti will be back next season. At one stage it may not have happened, but it did and we are delighted.
“Antti established himself really well last year, but it was also a learning curve for him with every away track, a new one to learn and figure out.
“However, we saw that after a few rides at a new track he started to figure things out and get going in the end.
“That’s why we feel in 2025 he could almost be our trump card as these tracks won’t be new to him anymore and he can kick on away from home.”
Vuolas will return to Northside in 2025 with a starting average of 6.40.
