Maryport are a club on the move in amateur rugby league, gaining rewards for some positive work at the Athletic Ground.
Although Wath Brow Hornets made a clean sweep of Holmen Iggesund Cumberland League honours it was Maryport who ran them closest.
It’s not that long ago, though, that Maryport had actually dropped out of competitive rugby league.
But through some astute appointments, a determination to build positively from a thriving youth system and with a hard-working committee behind them Maryport are back.
They held their presentation night at the weekend and there was even more positive news to release.
The club is to enter an A team in CARLA next season with a coaching team on match days of Marc Ivison, Craig Ivison and Kevin McCourt.
Former Workington Town and Whitehaven full-back Sam Forrester, whose 2024 season ended with a serious facial injury, is staying at the club to join the coaching team led by Mark Foster.
