Plans to expand a Cockermouth bookshop’s cafe due to demand has been revealed.
The New Bookshop, on Main Street, wants to convert the first and second floors of its building to help it expand.
The residential unit is independently accessed via an external staircase and if the plans are approved, part of an internal wall will be removed and the existing space refurbished.
The external staircase will remain unaltered and be used as a fire escape staircase for emergency use only.
Its application said: “The café business is an important part of the overall viability of the bookshop and expansion is needed due to increasing popularity.”
