Essential work to tackle erosion along the River Caldew in Carlisle will being on Monday.
The work, near Sheepmount Bridge, is expected to be completed by Christmas, Cumberland Council said.
The project addresses urgent erosion issues, safeguarding the area against further damage while preserving accessibility for local residents, businesses and park users.
The council said it was working closely with regulatory authorities, statutory service providers, and community partners to make sure the work was conducted safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption.
Work will take place from Monday to Friday, between 8am and 5pm, with no work on weekends, for around four weeks.
It will include rock bag deliveries, installation of Heras fencing, ecological surveys – such as for bats – selective vegetation and tree pruning by specialist arborists, and measures to protect the eroded riverbank.
Traffic management measures will be in place on Mayor’s Drive. Although pedestrian and cyclist routes will remain unaffected, the informal car park at the Sheepmount on Mayor’s Drive will be closed as it will serve as the contractor’s work compound.
Works will be being carried out by local contractor Metcalfe Plant Hire Limited.
