A crowd of 390 at Gillford Park last night saw Carlisle City reach the quarter finals of the Fred Conway County Cup.
A goal on the hour from Jordan Irving was enough to see them through to the last eight.
There had been a couple of deflections before Irving took the ball round the keeper before slamming home.
It had been a goal of few chances, probably City missing the three best ones before the goal while the United opportunity came late on and was actually a strike from distance by Dan Hopper which came off the post.
The game had been in doubt after the temperature had dropped at the start of the week, and might easily have been called off, so credit to both teams for completing the tie, especially a young United side.
The visitors had most on the possession but City dealt with that well and posed a threat on the counter.
They now can look forward to an FA Vase tie in a fortnight’s time against Crook Town away and await the draw for the quarter finals of the Fred Conway County Cup.
