
Westmorland Orchestra will hold a festive celebration for all the family next month.
Its Family Christmas Concert will be held on Sunday December 8 from 3pm at Kendal Leisure Centre.
The programme features classic Christmas sounds alongside some new twists, the orchestra said, conducted by Singaporean maestro Melvin Tay.
They include:
- Scary Fairy Saves Christmas, by Craig Charles and Iain Farrington: Narrator Matt Berry brings us a festive tale of whimsy and adventure in this lively and playful piece! Story by Craig Charles (TV show Red Dwarf), composer Iain Farrington, (Horrible Histories, Wallace and Gromit, 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony).
- Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, by Maurice Ravel: Step into a fantastical world with Ravel’s enchanting suite inspired by fairy tales. With vivid orchestral colours, Ravel brings to life characters from childhood stories in a captivating and magical soundscape.
- Tam o’ Shanter Overture, by Malcolm Arnold: Inspired by Robert Burns’ famous poem, this dramatic overture tells the story of Tam’s supernatural adventure, full of humour and tension. Arnold’s lively, folk-inspired composition is full of energy and surprises.
- Christmas Festival, by Leroy Anderson: Celebrate the holiday season with a medley of Christmas carols and festive tunes, featuring all the magic and excitement of the season, from Jingle Bells to Silent Night.
