Section of Carlisle’s Dalston Road to remain closed until February

A section of road between Dalston and Carlisle will remain closed until February.

Cumberland Council said work on the Carlisle Southern Link Road had not progressed as it had been expecting and the road – from Peter Lane turning down to Brow Nelson – would have to continue to be closed.

It released a statement today, Friday November 5, after a question about the reopening was asked at a full council meeting on November 5.

It said: “The delays have been caused by a series of unexpected issues out of our control. We are doing all we can to resolve them as quickly as we can.

“We have looked at providing an alternative route along the new section of road adjacent to Peter Lane but this is not possible due to the logistical requirements of the Caldew crossing bridge.

“Therefore, Dalston Road will remain closed until February 2025.

“We will continue to do all we can to support local residents and businesses as we appreciate the impact the road closure has. We have installed four electronic matrix boards at strategic locations. These display messages that Dalston businesses are open.”
