Workington Town Women extended their run of away wins to four on the spin on Sunday afternoon as they travelled down the M6 to face Haslingden Ladies.
This impressive spell has seen them rack up 22 goals and only concede a couple in reply.
The early exchanges were spirited between the two sides, with each side enjoying moments of success in an intensely contested opening 15 minutes.
However, it was the hosts that capitalised first, when the pace and composure of winger Nell Edmundson, proved momentarily too much to handle for the Town defence.
Showing great control, Edmundson bared down on Keeper Laura Miller, before slotting the ball in to the far side of Miller’s goal.
The game continued with the same eagerness, up until the visitors started showing impressive signs of control in their play which brought about a level of dominance, a theme that would be evident throughout the second half.
Young midfielder Cassie Donald, continued in her fine goalscoring form with another brace of impressive goals. The first came with 10 minutes of the half remaining as she beat keeper Naomi Entwistle, with a driven strike from 20 yards out.
She doubled her tally in the second half, firing home from the right, again from 20 yards, this time to find the top corner and give Town control of the game.
Sibling Kirsten Donald was keen to follow suit, as she finished off well with a left footed strike inside the area to give her side a two-goal lead.
Hayley Bracken made it 4-1 soon after when she broke in to space and fire home from the right and in doing so, effectively finish the contest.
The deal was sealed by Nat Broad with around a quarter of an hour remaining.
Broad’s in-swinging left footed delivery from a corner on the right had managed to evade defenders and attackers alike, before it nestled into the far corner.
Chloe Henderson continued her fine form this season and as such, was awarded Player of the Game after her clever use of space and intelligent connections had caught the hosts eyes.
After the game, manager Paul Mackenzie said: “We managed to build some really positive periods of pressure through impressive phases of controlled football.
“This gave us the opportunity to stretch Haslingden in the final third and fortunately we were able to convert these chances.
“We were made to grind out what in the end was a comfortable result, but the game wasn’t as one sided as the score may suggest and Haslingden deserve credit for their efforts on the day.”
