Plans to bring the Windermere Ferry back into service this weekend have hit a snag after an unexpected issue prevented a resumption of the link.
Mallard was withdrawn for three weeks to allow the fitting of a new engine, a refurbished gearbox, driveline and coupling together with deep water seals all aimed at improving reliability.
Yesterday, Friday February 14, morning an email to ferry users said it was hoped the service which was suspended at the end of January would resume on Saturday morning.
However a follow up email sent last night apologised for a further delay and thanked users for their patience.
Questions about the long term viability of the 30-year-old ferry have been raised by residents and businesses.
