Sedbergh Post Office will close tomorrow after the postmaster resigned.
The Main Street branch will close its doors for the final time at 5pm tomorrow, Thursday March 27.
A new branch will reopen at the Spar on Station Road at 11am on Tuesday April 1.
There will be a Post Office service point alongside the retail counter and it will provide 55 hours of services a week – an extra 13-and-a-half hours of service a week.
The opening hours will be Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6pm; Saturday 8.30am to 1pm and Sunday 11am to 2pm.
The Post Office said: “After careful consideration of the feedback received during consultation, we remain confident that the layout and location of the new branch will continue to meet customer needs and deliver an excellent service, while securing the long-term viability of Post Office services in the local community.
“With any relocation it is inevitable that whilst some customers will have an easier journey to the new location, regrettably others will have further to travel. In terms of pedestrian access to the new location, there are well maintained pavements, with dropped kerbs along the route from the current site.”
It said the former Sedbergh postmaster had offered outreach Post Offices.
Following a review, from next Monday, March 31, the postmaster from Appleby Post Office has agreed to operate Endmoor (Monday: 8.30am to 10.30am) and Dent (Wednesday 9am to 11am).
The Barbon Mobile service, which had been provided at village hall, Barbon, Carnforth, will stop due to low customer usage and alternative branches are Kirkby Lonsdale Post Office and Whittington outreach Post Office. The last visit has now taken place.
The postmaster for Appleby has had to adjust the timetable for visits to all of his outreaches from the week commencing March 31.
This affects the opening times and some visiting days at: Crosthwaite, Oxenholme, Quernmore, Glasson Dock, Galgate, Great Asby, Bampton, Bolton Village, Maulds Meaburn.
