A climber in the Lake District was airlifted to hospital after being crushed by a large boulder.
Emergency services were called to Raven Crag in Langdale after the climber sustained multiple serious injuries while testing to see if the boulder was loose.
Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team said he was still suspended in his harness.
The team added: “Due to the severity of the initial call a large amount of emergency services made their way to the location.
“Upon the team’s arrival two very helpful passers-by – heroes – had managed to get the casualty onto a small ledge and had begun to treat him.
“The team then took over and worked alongside the fire and ambulance service to treat the casualty’s serious Injuries before the casualty was flown to Preston for further treatment.
“This is a harsh reminder that even if you are an experienced climber(like our casualty)it is still possible on well travelled rock climbing destinations that there is still loose rock. Please take care when climbing.”
