After the Easter break, West Cumbrian rugby league fans were treated to a mid-week match as Seaton Rangers returned to winning ways beating Glasson Rangers 14-72.

Seaton took control of the game from the first whistle with props Alex Needham and Sam Blair laying the platform enabling the outside backs to run in the tries.

Jaiden Tallentire and Liam Williamson scored two each,  other tries came from Mark Surtees, Matt Dixon, Conor McCrickard, Charlie Ackerley, Sam Blair, Scott Faulkner, Aldenham Fryer and Owen Ackerley.

MOM Carl Forber kicked nine goals. Glasson’s points came from Connor Wilson, Grant Jones and Matt Burns, Credit was also given to Glasson stalwart Matt Johnson who took their MOM on his return to action in the 2025 season.

Friday night saw Wath Brow Hornets host Lowca and after 40 minutes it looked like the visitors were going to take the spoils as they lead 6-10.

But in the second half the Hornets found their form and score 30 unanswered points to take the game 36-10, testament to the Brow side who fielded nine under-18s in their squad.

Despite going behind to a early Brow try, Lowca scored their 10 points through Xander Callender and Ashton Briscoe.

In the Brow ranks hooker Daley Stables continued his positive start to the season by scoring two tries Other scorers were Isaac Scott, Rhomen Alick, Ryan Doran, Dave Bradley and Logan Fowler, who caught the eye of both coaches.

Cockermouth made the journey south to Askam, filled with confidence following their exploits in the Rotterdam 9s last weekend.

This new-found confidence saw the Titans claim their first league victory of the season winning 10-24. Cockermouth were led by MOM Cole Burgess and their tries came from Ryan Scott, Regan Tinnion and with second row Jamie Lightfoot crossing the line twice.

In reply, the Askam try scorers were Stuart High and Luke Bolton.

League leaders Maryport made the short trip to Flimby and after typical derby tussle won 10-38.

Maryport’s winger Atlee Skilled showed his skills to score twice, with the rest of the Maryport tries coming from Keiran Featherstone, Ethan Williams, Carl Steele, Jack Shepherd and Liam Anderson who also added five goals. Scorers for Flimby were Luke Grima and Karl Hine.

The result keeps Maryport two points clear at the top of the table.

The 1st Division action started on Friday evening as Kells A maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they beat Aspatria Hornets 44-24 on The Pit, but it wasn’t all one way traffic as the score would suggest.

Down 22-6, Aspatria battled back to lead 22-24, before Kells regained their composure to run in some late tries to seal the win.

For Kells, scrum half Kerian Halcrow scored an impressive hat trick, as Jamie Jennings and Layton Birkett scored two a piece with Ryan Starkey the other Kells scorer.

Aspatria led by Keiran Robinson scored there points though Kristian Beattie, Jordan Moore, Stuart Creighton and Jack Wilson.

Kells coach Lee Rutherford said: “It was a hard battle with Aspatria competing for the full 80 minutes and a good test for a young Kells team that got a few late tries on the scoreboard.”

Kells A are now joint top with Egremont A, who had a free week this weekend.

Saturday was a proud day in Maryport as it was the first time in 12 years that they had fielded two open age sides on the same day, as their A team hosted Hensingham A.

Unfortunately for the young Maryport A side after a free scoring game Hensingham took the two points, winning 30-32.

Hensingham prop Henley Donnan scored and was given MOM with the other Hensingham points scored by Aidan Butterworth, Danny Stables, Luke Clements, Theo Crowe, and Dylan Cromwell.

In reply Maryport’s Darren Pape and Jaiden Hutchinson scored two tries each and with Luke McKnight and Craig Ivison also got on the score sheet.
