At Dalemain House, near Penrith, the North West Driving Club’s main event of the year featured competitors tackling equestrian driving challenges under beautiful skies and warm sunshine, showcasing their skill, precision, and control, writes Vince Brand.
The event commenced with the dressage phase, where drivers demonstrated elegance and control within a very challenging arena.
This segment set the tone for the day, emphasizing the discipline and technical proficiency required in competitive carriage driving.
Immediately following the dressage test, competitors engaged in the cones challenge, a test of accuracy and agility as drivers navigated intricate courses designed to assess their ability to manoeuvre through narrow passages with speed and precision.

After a short lunch, attention shifted to the marathon and obstacle circuit—arguably the most demanding portion of the event.
Participants tackled a technically complex series of obstacles, requiring strategy and adept handling to complete the course successfully without any penalties.
The competition was met with enthusiastic support from the drivers, grooms, helpers, volunteers and spectators alike, with everyone praising the organisation of the event and the stunning venue.

The event’s success highlights the North West Driving Club’s growing prominence within the region’s equestrian sports calendar.
