
As his former club wins the Ken Glover Memorial Trophy in the Cumberland County League, a former Whitehaven man is celebrating helping Crystal Palace to a historic victory.
Goalkeeper Dean Henderson was part of the South London team who fought valiantly against Manchester City in the match.
Despite some controversy over whether he should have been sent off after handling the ball outside his area, a save in the first half have many lauding him a hero.
The former Manchester United player said he always loved football and is a graduate of the Carlisle United school of excellence and was with the club from 2005 to 2011.
After playing with his two older brothers, who he said, were constantly playing football at home, he started with Whitehaven Miners as an outfield player.
The 28-year-old has had loan spells at various clubs, including Stockport County, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town, and Sheffield United. He has also represented England at various youth levels and made his senior debut in 2020.
It was reported that he was sold by Manchester United to Crystal Palace for around £15 million in 2023.
