Mountain rescue volunteers had to go to the aid of a sheep who had got stuck above a popular Lake District attraction.
The team at Honister Slate Mine called Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team about the stranded Herdwick in a precarious position over its Via Ferrata.
Three team members made their way to the mine early yesterday to see if the sheep could be extracted.
Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team said: “The sheep had managed to position itself in such a way that the only access involved a rock climb to the ledge.
“The energetic Herdwick was then ensnared and lowered to safer ground, before being coerced back down the via Ferrata to avoid a repeat incident!”
