The first channel race of the season for Cumbrian fanciers has been delayed.
Weather at Fougeres was unsatisfactory this morning so 166 birds with the Cumbria Combine were held over. The forecast is better for tomorrow and hopefully there will be an early liberation.
The Combine tally is made-up of 89 (West Cumbria Amalgamation – Derwent Valley 67, West Cumberland 22); 47 (East Cumberland Federation) and 30 (Furness Federation) and they have been transported by the Midlands National FC.
Fougeres is in Brittany and the Cumbrian birds face a 400-plus mile fly home after the liberation.
The town of Fougere has a population of just over 20,000 and is famous for being home to the largest medieval fortress in Europe with 11 towers. The birds hopefully won’t take time to inspect it!
