A Kendal athlete has set a new record for Britain’s most brutal footrace.
Victoria Thompson took part in the first Montane Summer Spine Races at the weekend, which use the Pennine Way.
She won the Sprint South Race, setting a new course record in the process. The non-stop, 46-mile race along the Pennine Way from Edale to Hebden Bridge has a time limit of 18 hours.
Victoria finished in 7:49:44 and the old course record was Holly Browne with 08:30:29 last year.

Victoria is an outdoor enthusiast who spends the majority of her free time outside doing something active; fell running, ski touring, open water swimming, bike packing and trad climbing.
Last year, she broke the previous fastest women’s time at the Outside Hope Valley Round UK & Ireland women’s Skyrunning Series Champion and was also selected for the GB Skimo Squad.
