Car park shake-up plans by Cumbrian council

A shake-up of car park services is planned by a Cumbrian council.

Westmorland and Furness Council wants to hear people’s views about the parking available in its area, what they would like to see change and what they would like to see introduced,

It said the call for feedback was the first step in a shake-up and it planned to reshape what was on offer to ‘ensure a fair, efficient, and consistent approach that supports the needs of the area’s economy and our local communities’.

The council, which replaced three district councils and the county council in 2023, said it was in charge of different policies which meant experiences can differ across the area from the types of pay and display machines in car parks to the types of parking permits that are available.

The authority added: “In the lead-up to the launch of the community conversation, the parking team has been engaging with organisations, businesses, and community groups to gain a broad understanding of how parking affects different people.”

People can fill out a questionnaire here.

The survey is available until Friday July 18.
