A Lake District hotel has been acquired by a hospitality chain for an undisclosed sum.
Classic Lodges has taken over The Salutation Hotel in Ambleside.
The family-run firm also owns the Lakeside Hotel and Spa at Newby Bridge.
It was owned by hotelier Geoff Atkinson, who has run the hotel for the last 30 years.
The Salutation Hotel was originally a coaching inn providing hospitality and accommodation for the wool buyers of the 1800s, it is now a four star 70-bedroom hotel, which also features a swimming pool and spa facility, and many rooms have private hot tubs.
Richard Grime, managing director of Classic Lodges, said: “There has always been a desire within our family-owned business to add a second property in the Lake District, and we are very pleased to announce the acquisition of The Salutation which will make an excellent sister hotel to The Lakeside Hotel & Spa.
“The Lake District is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, hugely popular with tourists and ‘staycationers’ alike. We have taken our time in expanding our portfolio, waiting for the right opportunity. We have no doubt; The Salutation is that opportunity, in a fabulous location.
“We will be focused on delivering the best customer experience for our future guests and look forward to welcoming them back again and again.”
Julian Troup, head of UK hotels agency at Colliers brokered the confidential sale acting on behalf of the owner.
Classic Lodges also operates hotels in West Yorkshire, Preston, North Yorkshire, the Isle of Man and Northumberland.
