Huntsman’s Rebel and Huntsman’s Unite with Denise and Jenny Bland

Monday saw a return to Latrigg Tops for the second time this season where a four grade meeting was held with 49 hounds turning out on the night.

The weather was wet and bitter but up first were the Seniors with seven lining up at the slip.

Huntsman’s Rebel for Denise and Jenny Bland, and Graham Little was sent off as the favourite.

Huntsman’s Time for Denise and Jenny Bland and Graham Little was off to a flying start ahead of Maeve for Christine Brownlee, Huntsman’s Quantum for Jim, Ann, Alan and Adrian Little and Christine’s other hound Malia in fourth.

Hounds can be seen from the trail field crossing the fell after about seven minutes running and Huntsman’s Time, Mel for Les and Graham Reid and Ellie Napier and Huntsman’s Rebel had pulled away from the chasing pack.

Leading the chasing pack was Huntsman’s Quantum with a small gap to Malia and Maeve. Reports came in from the puppy split and Huntsman’s Time was still leading the way from Mel in a close second and a five-yard gap to Huntsman’s Rebel and another gap to Huntsman’s Quantum.

As the hounds came into sight before they drop into the bottoms Huntsman’s Time and Mel had developed an advantage on Huntsman’s Rebel.

As they dropped down the fell into the fields in the bottoms Mel had pulled away and had a nice lead but ran off and put herself way back to third place leaving Huntsman’s Time and Huntsman’s Rebel to lead the race.

Onto the finish the pair had a good race to the line with Huntsman’s Rebel getting the win by a length from Huntsman’s Time with a small gap to Mel in third. Huntsman’s Quantum finished in fourth and Malia in fifth. The final ticket went to Maeve.

Up next were the Pups with 20 taking to the trail. Huntsman’s Unite for Denise and Jenny Bland and Graham Little was sent off as the favourite.

Brown Sugar for Graham and Les Reid and Ellie Napier, Nellie’s Joy for Jonty and Evie Moore and Jack Thompson and Huntsman’s Unite began to pull away.

Denis Pear with Miterdale Duchess

As they dropped down the fell Huntsman’s Unite was leading from kennel mate Jenny’s Chance for Denise and Jenny Bland, Graham Little and Ella and Kyle Gallacher and Brown Sugar in third.

As they showed onto the finish Huntsman’s Unite claimed the win from kennel mates Minnie and Maggie for Les and Graham Reid, Erin Rowlandson, Barbara Jones and Steven Walker.

Sixteen hounds lined up at the slip for the Open Restricted. Lily for Barbara Jones was sent off as the favourite.

As the hounds climbed out of sight they were all in a line and the rain was making it difficult to make them out. As they showed onto the fell and dropping down into the bottoms Swamp Fox for Tanya Satterthwaite was leading from Persian Gold for Michael Watson and Lily in third and Offspring for Stuart, James and Jacob Jeyne’s in fourth.

Tania Satterthwaite with Swamp Fox

As they showed onto the finish it was a mother and son battle as Swamp Fox took the win by a length from her son Offspring with Persian Gold in third.

The final trail of the evening was the Veterans with a field of six. Miterdale Duchess for Denis Peare and Jackie Gill was sent off as the favourite.

As they climbed out once they had been slipped Miterdale Duchess was off to a good start from Brian Graham’s pair of Bretton and Eleanor’s Lass. As they dropped down the fell and into the bottoms the same three hounds had pulled away with Miterdale Duchess still leading the way from Bretton and Eleanor’s Lass.

Miterdale Duchess ran off and put herself back to third allowing Bretton and Eleanor’s Lass to take the lead.

However as they showed onto the finish, Miterdale Duchess was at the front again and claimed the win from Bretton and Eleanor’s Lass.
