A walker in the Lake District who fell and suffered a minor head injury and broken ankle was airlifted for treatment.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team was called at around 12.45pm on Saturday, July 12, to Long Stile at Haweswater.
The walker in the High Street/Kidsty Pike area had taken a small tumble.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team said: “Due to the length of the walk-in and stretcher carry out on an exceptionally hot day, a request was lodged for helicopter support from the Coastguard who were thankfully able to send from Prestwick to attend.
“The helicopter was able to winch the casualty from the fell and fly him down to Penrith team members, who had returned to the valley, on the flats beside the reservoir.
“This meant it was only a short stretcher carry back to the waiting ambulance in the car park at Mardale Head.
“We are deeply appreciative of R199 being able to attend as it saved the team a two to three-hour stretcher extraction in scorching temperatures. It was also the first of several Lakes Mountain Rescue jobs that they attended on Saturday.”
