Cumbrian brewery Crooked River Brewing Co has revealed plans to open a new beer shop in Cockermouth.
The firm has applied for a premises licence for the shop in the town’s Market Place.
Crooked River Brewing Co was launched in 2022 by Phil Scholey and Alan Fitton-Crellin from a small garden shed set-up.
Alan said: “We poured our first beer for the public at the Taste Cumbria Festival in 2022, with our friends at the former Beer Cockermouth, right here on the Market Place.
“To now be returning to open a shop of our own on the same street feels iconic.”
Since its launch, the company has experienced rapid growth.
Last year, it opened its flagship taproom in Keswick and earlier this year, acquired Tractor Shed Brewing in Workington, now the company’s production hub.
This expansion significantly boosted their brewing capacity and wholesale reach across the region, the pair said.
Phil added: “Since taking on Tractor Shed Brewing, demand for our beers has been consistently growing. We’ve had great success with our shop at the brewery, and the response made it clear there’s a strong appetite for a more accessible retail location.
“Cockermouth felt like the obvious choice – not just for its convenience, but because of the community we’ve built here through our events.
“The proposed beer shop will offer more than just Crooked River’s own range- it will be a curated selection of the best craft beers from across the UK and beyond, creating what the team hopes will be the most extensive craft beer selection in West Cumbria.
“If you love beer, there will be something here for you.”
It is hoped the shop will open in the early autumn if the premises licence application is successful.
