A young Cumbrian boxer is putting on his running shoes in memory of a nine-year-old who died in April.
Arabella Louise Kelly, a pupil at Beckstone Primary School in Harrington, near Workington, was diagnosed with a brain tumour when she was two. After treatment, she was given the all clear, until a routine scan found its return last year.
Elliot Murray, a young youth Carlisle Villa boxer, is an apprentice business administrator at the school.
He will run all the events at Workington’s Festival of Running on Sunday, August 10, to help raise funds for a garden at the school in memory of Arabella.
Elliot said: “I had the privilege of meeting the incredible Arabella. Arabella had a wonderful smile that could brighten any room.
“She would come to my desk with little cut out hearts she had made for me.
“Beckstone is raising funds to make an incredible memorial garden, In memory of Arabella, which I know will be loved, and bring smiles to the children of Beckstone, something which Arabella did.”
He will attempt the half-marathon, 10k, 5k and 1k at the event.
Mum Nicki said: “As parents we were proud when Elliot had said he was planning on helping contribute to such a wonderful cause.”
