19th century dolls sell for £2,800 at Mitchells

A collection of 19th century doll’s house dolls were the highest selling lot in Mitchells’ Toy Sale.

The collection of china 19th century doll’s house dolls, 11cm high with glass eyes and painted faces, all in their original clothes, had been expected to sell for £100 to £150 but surprised salegoers by eventually selling for £2,800.

A large single owner collection of Thomas the Tank Engine also did well, including a very rare Thomas the Tank Hornby 00 Gauge boxed Locomotive Murdoch sold for £650 and three boxes of wood built Brio locomotives, rolling stock, vehicles and figures which made £420.

A collection of Star Wars Figures including Imperial and Rebel Troops, Jedi, Yoda and R2-D2, many with loose weapons, made £420 against an estimate of £20 to £40.

A boxed Transformer, Robosen Optimus Prime Elite Core Edition, also did extremely well selling for £380.

Computer games featured in the sale included a collection of 12 Amiga Dungeons and Dragons games and related items which sold for £350.

A Sega Mega Drive 16 Bit and Sega Mega Drive 32X plus several other games including a 32 Bit Star Wars Arcade, Virtua Racing Deluxe and Doom and also Sega Mega Drive Arcade Power Stick and Control Pad all made £320.

Traditional toys for sale included a vintage Triang wooden rocking horse, 88cm in length and 55cm high, which made £320.

Another rocking horse, carved by Ian Armstrong with red tack and a raised back saddle measuring 184cm in length and 130cm high sold for £215.

A boxed Steiff Millennium Band Stand and five Millennium Band Bears, with certificate, made £280.

A fully illustrated catalogue with all the prices realised in the sale can be viewed online at www.mitchellsantiques.co.uk.

Entries are now open for Mitchells’ next Toy Sale including soft toys, dolls, model railways, die-cast models, computer games or other vintage toys.

Mitchells next major sale is the three-day Antiques & Fine Art Sale from Wednesday September 24 to Friday September 26.

Entries are open until Friday August 22.

Entries are also invited for Mitchells Country Sporting Sale from October 22 to October 24. If you have something related to hunting, shooting or fishing such as fishing tackle, country clothing or a Wilk cartoon, contact James Moore for a free valuation for sale. The final deadline for entries is Friday September 19.
