Rydal Sheep Dog trial hound show took place at Rydal Park just outside Ambleside.

The show hosts three races over the day but due to the number of fixtures in what has been a busy week and the height of the holiday season the number of runners were down with 18 in total.

Five of them were slipped in the opening senior trail over the course which is basically the same as for Ambleside Sports so there is limited viewing.

When they did get back onto the finish it was a good race between Miterdale Dusk and Miterdale Green Queen.

These two hounds had a lead on the next two and they raced together down the fell with it being neck and neck to the line where Miterdale Dusk just managed to keep his head in front and win for Sophie Steele.

Her hound Miterdale Green Queen owned jointly with Jake and Zac Green finished well in second place. There was a gap to third place where Baroness Ava for James and Ava McClellan just hung on to beat Huntsman’s Quantum for Jim, Ann, Alan and Adrian Little.

James and Ava’s other hound Countess Ava wasn’t too far behind in fifth place.

The third place for Baroness Ava makes it her 11th of the season while the win for Miterdale Dusk moves him up in the championship table now with three wins under his belt in the senior races.

Ruth Dixon with Let It Be

The open pups also had a field of six runners. Back on the finish it was Ruth and Charlie Dixon’s Let It Be who came on his own to win easily making it his fifth win of the season.

Sophie Steele’s Miterdale Wow finished in second place with Stephen Irving and Caroline Graham’s Zoya in third. Huntsman’s Unite was fourth for Denise and Jenny Bland and Graeme Little with Zaya finishing in fifth, also for Stephen Irving and Caroline Graham.

The open restricted were last to run with a slip of seven hounds. Once back on the finish it was a cracking race between Sophie Steele’s Kinniside Bobby, John Lyon’s local hound Black Eyed Shadow and Ruth and Charlie Dixon’s Let’s Go For It.

As they approached the line it was Kinniside Bobby who just hung on to take the win from Black Eyed Shadow then Let’s Go For It in third place.

Sophie’s other hound Miterdale Rambler a winner earlier in the week at Rusland finished in fourth place with Denise and Jenny Bland and Graeme Little’s Huntsman’s Quirk claiming the last ticket of the day.

Racing resumes today at Rusland where the annual show trails will take place. Races start at 1.30pm with a five race meeting. Then it’s a trip to Wythop on Sunday for another four race meeting with the first race at 1pm.
