A trader has admitted selling counterfeit hand rolling tobacco and possessing illegal cigarettes in Barrow.
Bahruz Alyasi, 31, of Duncan Road, Derby, who runs the European Food Store on Dalton Road, was sentenced by Barrow Magistrates Court today.
He was handed a 12-month community order of 80 hours of unpaid work, £1,000 costs and a £90 victim surcharge.
Alyasi had pleaded guilty to two Trade Mark Act offences and one tobacco labelling offence at an earlier hearing.
His court appearances followed an investigation by Westmorland and Furness Trading Standards.
Trading Standards officers visited the European Food Store in November 2021. An officer was sold counterfeit hand rolling tobacco during a test purchase.
Officers subsequently seized 206 packets of illegal cigarettes and 850g of hand rolling tobacco from the premises.
