Former Workington Reds manager Danny Grainger has left Morecambe FC.
The troubled National League side have announced that the ex-Carlisle United captain won’t be staying at the club.
The Penrith-based assistant manager was summoned to the ground to be told he was no longer being employed.
Morcambe, who have had financial issues surrounding their previous owner, were taken over this week.
Still to play a game in the National League after relegation and reportedly with only five senior players at the club, they are due to start their delayed campaign this weekend.
Earlier in the week unveiled Ashvir Singh Johal as the club’s new manager.
The appointment came just two days after the club was bought by the Punjab Warriors group after a two-year protracted sale.
After confirming the takeover, the first action of the Shrimps’ new owners was to part ways with manager Derek Adams.
Adams, 50, was in his third stint in charge of the National League club having been appointed in June 2024.
He brought in Grainger as his right-hand man, and he too has now left the Shrimps.
The 30-year old Singh, from Leicester, has coached at Leicester City, Wigan and Como, and claims to be one of the youngest UEFA Pro Licence holders in Europe.
In a statement about Grainger, 39, the club said: “The club would like to thank Danny for his time, dedication, and contributions both on and off the pitch over the past season.
“A valuable member of the club, Danny brought professionalism and leadership to the team.
“The club would like to extend its best wishes to Danny in his next chapter of his career and expresses gratitude for his commitment to Morecambe FC.”
Cumbria Crack understands Grainger was offered a job running the Morecambe Academy but declined. He has his own academy in Penrith.
