
Barrow might have been on the back foot but they still managed to win 2-0 at Colchester.
It was their first away win so far, and a testament to their resilience at the back and ability to deliver a smash and grab victory.
The majority of chances were created by the home side but they couldn’t fine a finish as Barrow showed bravery in they blocked attempts at goal, while Wyll Stanway was a secure last line of defence.
Colchester had a 66-34% pull on possession; led 24-9 on shots and 14-2 on corners.
But Barrow ruled on the two stats that matter – goals.
The south Cumbrians went in front on nine minutes when Tom Barkhuizen got away down the right and crossed for Jack Earing to score at the second attempt after home keeper Matt Macey had saved his first effort.
Stanway produced his first good save to deny Samson Tovide while Arthur Read should have done better when given the opportunity but fired wide.
Jack Payne also could have levelled after some superb ball control in the Barrow penalty area but spoiled his skilful play by firing over the bar.
Colchester thought Barrow should have been reduced to ten men just before the break when defender Charlie Raglan caught Tovide with a heavy tackle but he was only shown a yellow card.
Owura Edwards was the next o miss a good chance for the home side when he hammered a shot over the top on the hour mark.
The Bluebirds sealed their win in the 72nd minute when Lewis Shipley climbed high to beat keeper Macey to head home, after Raglan had helped on the ball from Regan Booty’s free-kick.
