
The bomb squad were called after an artillery shell was found on a West Cumbrian beach.
A suspicious item was found at Drigg beach yesterday evening by a walker.
They called the Coastguard via 999 and teams investigated the item and called the army’s explosive ordnance disposal experts.
A safety cordon was established and the bomb disposal team arrived today, Monday August 25.

The item was identified as a 105mm artillery shell.
A controlled explosion was carried out at around 12.45pm.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Our thanks to the members of public for their co-operation in maintaining a safety cordon.”
