Plate Winners I Wouldn’t Wanna Biju

The Ged Blaney and Arthur Lamb Memorial Seven-a-Side cricket tournament proved another huge success.

Staged at the Whitehaven club it has mushroomed into a 24 team event from the inaugural eight team competition 10 years ago.

All proceeds go to the Henderson and Loweswater suites at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven, with £9,000 being raised this year to bring the combined total since the event started to over £75,000.

The latest event was attended by a record crowd of over 500.

The teams who entered all gave a 100% but it was Got The Runs Again who ran out the eventual winners, defeating Threlkeld in the final.

Whitehaven Cricket Club have always had a great relationship with The Foxes and it was fantastic that they showed their support by travelling all that way to participate on  the day.

The plate competition was won by Wouldn’t Wanna’ Biju who beat The Invitational Vll.

Young player of the tournament Harry Vaughan receives his award from Arthur Lamb’s father Christopher.

The following awards were presented:

  • Young player of the tournament winning the Arthur Lamb Memorial Cup – Harry Vaughan
  • Plate winners – Wouldn’t Wanna Biju

The annual auction was a great success with items donated by Surrey and Oval Invincibles’ Jordan Clark; Wigan Warriors Harvey Hill and Perth Scorchers Keaton Jennings via Jamie Harrison among the lots.

One poignant moment during the presentation ceremony was a minute’s applause for the late Lesley Sanczuk.

Lesley died on Friday morning, was the mother of Whitehaven captain Leo and was a popular, hard-working member of the Whitehaven club and was loved and respected by all and it was a fitting tribute to her memory.

The  competition could not function without the support of sponsors and local businesses and individuals so the organising committee and the Blaney and Lamb families would like to thank:
