The owners of a Cockermouth chip shop hit by fire earlier this week have thanked the community for their support.

Emergency services were called to Main Street Fisheries on Tuesday at around 6.50pm.

Five fire crews were called to the blaze.

In a social media post, Julie Miller, of Main Street Fisheries, said: “I would just want to thank all the emergency services including Cumbria Fire & Rescue teams, Cumbria police and the North West Ambulance Service for attending so swiftly to this tragic incident.

“Two members of staff did get taken to hospital, and fortunately both were both okay after being checked over.

“I also want to thank Abul Imran from the Spice Club for his kind hospitality on the night, Becky from the Brown Cow, One Stop staff members, Hazel McKeating for making food to keep us going.

“I am extremely grateful for the exceptional support from my family.

“We have found that Cockermouth is a really strong community when people are in circumstances like this, the comments are very supportive and kind.

“At this point we do not know how long it will take until we are up and running again, but we will keep you updated.”
