Denise Bland with Huntsman’s Unite

Thursday saw the first of the Lowick series take place where 18 hounds turned out for the three-grade meeting.

The Seniors had a field of 10 and Huntsman’s Rebel for Denise and Jenny Bland and Graham Little was sent off as favourite.

As they progressed throughout the trail kennel mates Huntsman’s Rebel and Huntsman’s Time battled for the front. On to the finish Huntsman’s Rebel won with Huntsman’s Time in second and Baroness Ava for James and Ava McClellan yet again finishing in third.

Kennel mates Miterdale Honesty and Miterdale Rambler for Anthony, Steph, Sophie, Katie, and Alfie Steele finished fourth and fifth. The final ticket went to Lily for Barbara Jones.

The Pups had four runners with Jenny’s Chance for Denise and Jenny Bland, Graham Little and Ella and Kyle Gallacher sent off as the favourite.

As they tackled the trail Jenny’s Chance pulled away and won easily to claim her fifth puppy win of the season ahead of kennel-mate Huntsman’s Unite for Denise and Jenny Bland, and Graham Little. There was a small gap to Miterdale Wow in third for Anthony, Steph, Sophie, Katie, and Alfie Steele.

John Lyon and Nicola Metcalf with Black Eyed Shadow

The final trail of the evening was the Open Restricted with another field of four and Black Eyed Shadow for John Lyon sent off as the favourite.

Black Eyed Shadow stole a march and won easily with no other hound in sight. Classmate for Donna Bingham, Richard Gardener and Barry Laider eventually finished in second and they were the only two to complete the trail.

Ennerdale Show

William McDonald and Ellie Napier with Mel

The traditional Ennerdale Show hosts a four-grade meeting where 63 hounds turned out.

The weather is always a bit tricky for Ennerdale Show and it didn’t change this time with heavy rainfall but it was still warm and visibility was reasonably fine given the rain.

The trails were sponsored by William McDonald from McDonald Fencing Services so the organisers gave a huge thank you to him and the company.

The Mills family also sponsored the pups so they also received a big thanks.

The Seniors had a field of 11 and Mel for Les and Graham Reid and Ellie Napier was sent off as the favourite.

Charlie Dixon and William McDonald with Let’s Go For It

The hounds can be seen from the trail field crossing the second road and Mel was leading the way from Baroness Ava for James and Ava McClellan with Foxparke Honk Honk for Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler in third and Countess Ava for James and Ava McClellan in fourth.

As they showed on the back fell a group of six had broken clear with Foxparke Honk Honk leading from Mel.

When they jumped the final wall and onto the trod on the finish Foxparke Honk Honk had the advantage over Mel but as they appeared back into sight it had changed.

Mel had taken the lead and finished well to win with Foxparke Honk Honk having to settle for her fourth second place at the venue with Millie’s Lass for George McGimpsy, Gillian and Millie Telford in third.

Croft Lass for Stanley, Carole and Sarah Jackson, David Loan, Rick Deacon and Donald Hodgson finished fourth and Baroness Ava was fifth. Countess Ava took the final ticket.

The Pups race was contested by a field of 20 and the cooler, damper weather encouraged owners to run their hounds following a very dry and warm spell.

Huntsman’s Unite for Denise and Jenny Bland and Graham Little was sent off as the favourite.

As they crossed the first road Huntsman’s Unite was leading from Let It Be for Ruth and Charlie Dixon with Maggie for Les and Graham Reid, Erin Rowlandson, Barbara Jones and Steven Walker in third. Busy Rascal for Alan Blacklock and Carole Harrison was in fourth.

As they appeared on the back fell two had broken clear, Huntsman’s Unite and Busy Rascal.

The pair had a great race to the line with Huntsman’s Unite earning the win by two lengths from Busy Rascal with a small gap to Let It Be who finished in third.

Foxparke Oink Oink for Robyn, Ellie, Grace, and Nicola Napier, Brooke Butler and Donald Hodgson was fourth ahead of Minnie for Les and Graham Reid, Erin Rowlandson, Barbara Jones and Steven Walker. The final ticket went to Maggie.

The Open Maidens also had 20 runners with Dundee for Neil and Gillian Brown, and Joel and Derrick Bulman sent off as the favourite.

As they crossed the first road Senor for Malcolm Holmes was leading from Mr Mally for George Burgon and Carole Logan with Inspect for Kerry and Anna Lindsay and Emmie McAulay in third.

Glamorous Ava for James and Ava McClellan was fourth with the favourite Dundee in fifth.

As they showed on the back fell two of them had broken clear, a lemon and white hound which punters thought was Glamorous Ava and Foxparke Dealer for Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler.

Ellie Napier and William McDonald with Foxparke Elliot’s Lad

As they got nearer it was actually Foxparke Elliot’s Lad for Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler who was leading the race and pulled away nicely to claim the easiest win of the day.

Mr Mally finished second and Senor was third with Spring Return for Jenny Horn taking fourth. Persian Gold for Michael Watson was fifth and Inspect took the final ticket.

The final trail of the day was the Open Restricted with 12 entered. Duchess Ava for James and Ava McClellan was sent off as the favourite.

When they crossed the first road Discover for Anna and Kerry Lindsay was leading from Meadow Lane for Paul Airey and Joanne Hodgson with Hey Mac for Neil and Gillian Brown, and Joel and Derrek Bulman in third.

Let’s Go For It for Ruth and Charlie Dixon was fourth.

As they appeared on the finish three had broken clear and established an advantage. It was a very good race with the judge having to refer to the camera to give the race to Let’s Go For It who was actually repeated her win from the Open Pups last year.

Discover finished in second with fast finishing Foxparke Fairlady for Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier, and Brooke Butler in third and Hey Mac taking fourth.

Summer Spirit for Willie and Craig Mark was fifth and the final ticket went to Millie’s Lad for George McGimpsy, Gillian and Millie Telford.

This weekend sees a busy one with two venues staging races.
