Workington Comets team manager James Denham has been reflecting on his side’s exit from the Championship play-offs.
Comets slipped to a 53-37 defeat at Redcar on Friday night, going down 104-76 on aggregate as the Bears’ strength in depth proved too much to handle,
Denham said: “It’s disappointing to fall short and for our play-off hopes to be over.
“We started the meeting way to slow and weren’t on the same setup as the Redcar boys – but I was encouraged to see that we did win the second half of the meeting.
“We’ve shown what we’re capable of on our night this season, taking some big scalps against the likes of Glasgow and Poole, but unfortunately it just hasn’t clicked all at once often enough.
“Away from home in particular, we’ve carried a few too many passengers at times and that’s cost us ultimately.
“That said, the effort has always been there and the spirit in this team has never dropped. Now it’s about dusting ourselves down, taking the positives, and looking ahead to finishing the season on a high and to what next season might bring.
“Sadly Sunday’s home fixture with Berwick has been postponed due to the weather again which is frustrating, so our next meeting will be up at Berwick next Saturday.
“So the boys will regroup, give it our all again, and make sure we finish the campaign in the right way.”
