Workington Town coach Jonty Gorley has responded to the many messages he has received from well wishers after he took ill at Saturday’s game against Goole Vikings.
He was taken to hospital in Scunthorpe but was able to travel home later.
Jonty said: “The care and attention I received from Courtney Stephenson, Helen McDowell and all the medical staff at Goole Vikings RLFC and also Scunthorpe General hospital was second to none. I was definitely in safe hands.
“To Vicky Brown of No Travel Ltd, Scott Taylor, Graeme Peers and Steve McCormack thank you also very much for the way you all professionally and swiftly handled the situation.
“To hundreds of messages from family, friends, Town supporters and the wider rugby league community, far too many to get back to individually, overwhelmed is an understatement.
“Rugby league is truly the best sport in the world especially when you’re in your hour of need.
“Thank you all, I’m home and well.”
There were 15 minutes left to play in the game with Town ahead 12-6 and with it being the final game of the season the result is likely to stand.
The RFL board will discuss the abandonment and Goole have said they are happy to go along with whatever is decided.
