
Carlisle United had a dramatic 2-1 win at Northallerton in the first qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup.
Phoebe Langan scored the last-minute winner to take the Blues through.
Carlisle looked set to progress thanks to Bessie Best’s second-half strike, only for Northallerton to equalise in the third minute of additional time.
But there was a final twist in the tale, as Langan raced through on goal and calmly slotted home the winner to seal a thrilling win.
County neighbours Penrith needed no such late drama in their tie as they romped home 15-0 at home to Boro Rangers.
Penrith put in a confident performance to overcome Boro Rangers, doing the basics right from start to finish.
They kept things simple, controlled possession, and were patient in build-up — which created some excellent passages of play and kept them in charge of the game throughout.
But Whitehaven were beaten on Sunday going down 1-0 to Redcar Town.
It could have been different but Whitehaven had a penalty saved by Redcar keeper Abi Foy.
Workington Town Women missed-out this year on the competition as a clerical error in the application meant they missed the deadline.
On the second qualifying round on September 21 it’s a local derby as Carlisle United have been drawn at home to Penrith.
