A £500,000 scheme to replace water mains in a north Cumbrian village is set to start next week.
United Utilities will install a kilometre of new water mains in Dalston to improve the resilience and reliability of the water network in the area.
It is the first of a series of mains renewal projects to be delivered in Cumbria, which will see more than 925km of mains upgraded during the next five years.
Work will begin on the B5299 Dalston Road on Monday September 15 and is expected to take 12 weeks to complete.
The replacement mains are built to withstand high pressure and temperature variations to help protect against burst and reduce leaks, United Utilities said.
Contractors will carry out the work in sections along Dalston Road.
United Utilities is notifying customers in Dalston to let them know about the project. It has reminded people that all United Utilities’ employees and contract partners carry ID cards and will be happy to have their identity checked. If in doubt, customers should call 0345 672 3723.
In Cumbria, 65km of mains will be upgraded during the next 12 months.
