Cockermouth entertained Millom in the first match of the season in Counties 1 Cumbria and were 43-5 winners.
It proved a vigorously contested match with great energy and skills on display from both sides.
Early doors Millom were penalised for holding on following a trademark Harry Bibby tackle.
In fact there were only two minutes on the clock when the Wasps opened the scoring.
It followed an accurate kick into the clubhouse corner for a line-out which went on to function well throughout the contest.
The ball was secured and Will Tyson burst blind from the subsequent maul to score the first Cockermouth try of the season.
The Wasps then exerted pressure on the Millom line with dominant scrummaging and controlled play.
A Ben Irving run almost produced a try but was spoiled by a forward pass.
Wasps won the scrum in front of the posts and Grant Law ran through to score with Jake Moore converting on 14 minutes.
Soon after Millom produced some sharp moves from midfield and were awarded a penalty for a high tackle with Cockermouth’s Irving yellow carded.

Soon after Millom moved the ball rapidly left and scored an unconverted try by full-back John Falconer to cut the deficit to 12-5.
Wasps then dominated the next period with strong forward play featuring Alex Butterfield with Oli Grey running strongly and Finn Reed tackling well.
Following a Reid burst, the ball was moved rapidly right to reach Bibby on a run from deep, slicing through to score near the posts on 28 minutes. Moore converted.
A few minutes later Moore landed a penalty from out wide and the score was still 22-5 at half-time.
Cockermouth coach Stephen Reed took the opportunity to utilise the bench at half time.
Wasps exerted pressure on the Millom line at the start of the half but were unable to capitalise.
Millom then produced a period of good handling and recycling but soon after this spell they had a player yellow carded for a high tackle.
Wasps attacking play continued with Ethan Cross and Harry Highton impressing before some slick handling enabled Will Hetherington to score in the corner with Moore converting on 53 minutes.
For the next ten minutes both sides competed vigorously at both ends of the pitch.
Wasps put together a couple of promising backs moves and eventually on 62 minutes Reed burst through, swerved the last defender and touched down. Moore added the extras.
Again Millom produced a period of good play which was only ended by a knock- on forced by strong tackling defence from the home side.
Just before the end Reed ripped the ball out in a tackle, ran through and dotted down under the posts and the Moore conversion was the final score of the game.
