West Cumbrian Ben McCarron has made a bright start to his American experience on the football field.
McCarron is on a degree course at Louisiana State University after flying out last month.
He has been training and playing friendlies with the university’s team Alexandra Generals, impressing enough to earn a start in the first league game.
It was a successful debut, too, scoring in a 3-2 win to give the team a bright start to the new campaign.
In a message home young McCarron, who played locally for Cleator Moor Celtic, Workington Reds, Carlisle City and Parkside, said he was enjoying life – although it was quite hot at 34 degrees.
Ben is chuffed, too, that he has the number 20 shirt in the team.
As a Liverpool supporter he said he felt as though he was paying respect to Diego Jota, who died in a collision during the summer.
Ben, who will be 20 in October, is on a four-year degree course in business management.
