A special harvest festival will be held next month to celebrate the contribution farmers make to the Cumbrian community.
Churches Together in Carlisle & District has organised the service at the city’s Borderway Mart at 6pm on Friday October 24.
The Rev Lisa Moore Wilson, president of CTiC&D, said: “This is the first time that people across the city have had the chance to gather together in one place for harvest worship.
“However, the service will also recognise both the contributions which farmers around Cumbria make to us here in the city and the challenges they face.
“We are delighted that Harrison & Hetherington which operate the Borderway Mart are allowing us to use their fantastic facility, the service will take place in one of the auction rings. It really will be a very unique and we can’t think of a better place for harvest worship!”
The service will be led by clergy and lay readers from across the city who have worked together to create the inaugural event.
The Rev David Newlove, Superintendent Minister of the Cumbria Methodist Circuit, is taking part.
He said: “As an agricultural chaplain I constantly hear of the stresses and strains our farmers and food producers are under – from policies and low returns through to the weather.
“It will be good to gather in their place of meeting, to honour them, reflect and give thanks. I am looking forward to this new opportunity.”
