A leading independent school in north Cumbria is opening its doors to youngsters and their parents to show them how it can help support and inspire the next generation.
Austin Friars, in Carlisle, has supported young people in developing and strengthening their skills for almost 75 years.
It is holding an open week next month so prospective pupils can immerse themselves in school life and find out what Austin Friars can offer.
Open to pupils aged three to 18, Austin Friars offers a seamless educational experience – allowing children to build lasting friendships and benefit from continuity in their learning and support.
Though the school proudly holds on to its heritage through its unchanged values and traditions, it has embraced modernisation and continues to evolve for the benefit of future generations.
Several exciting developments are currently taking place, set to benefit pupils and the wider community – ranging from a 3G multi-sport pitch, Padel tennis courts, and IT suite featuring Mac computers, to a photography darkroom, a ceramic kiln room, and a food technology area.
This is in addition to numerous projects completed in the last year – including the construction of an on-site Forest School area which allows junior school children to fall in love with nature by exploring the outdoors safely and in a guided environment.

While Austin Friars is not an academically selective school, its teachers are proud of their pupils’ recent outstanding results – with 94% of fifth formers achieving five or more GCSEs at grades 9-4, and all upper sixth students securing their chosen university or next stage.
Chris Hattam, headmaster, said: “It is an incredibly exciting time to join our school community and there truly is something on offer for everyone here at Austin Friars – whether your interests lie in art, drama, music, sport, or something entirely different.

“We are a school that takes great pride in supporting our pupils and preparing them for an ever-changing world, guided by talented professionals who are dedicated to the success of each individual – both inside and beyond the classroom.
“There are a variety of ways that we can support families in nurturing their children’s dreams, so I would encourage you to get in touch to explore available options – even if you have never considered an independent education for your child before.”

The school’s annual Open Week event from October 13 to October 17 offers families the chance to immerse themselves in school life – including a chance to explore the school and its facilities, experience lessons, and meet senior staff and current pupils.
