Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves picked up their first point in the Cumberland County League’s Premier Division.

They drew 1-1 at Keswick helped by an important penalty save from goalkeeper Greg Rooney.

Better known for his exploits in rugby league with Wath Brow Hornets, Rooney saved a penalty from Jamie Little with the score at 0-0.

In fact it was a successful penalty by Jack Agnew which gave Celtic the lead before half-time.

Keswick had most of the play in the second-half and got their equaliser through Andy Frampton.

But they weren’t helped by having Kieran Spary sent off 10 minutes from the end for retaliation.

In the end they could have won it but for a fine late save by Rooney to deny Luke Mason.

Celtic were well served by 46-year-old defender Gareth Evans who had come out of retirement to help-out through a shortage of regulars.

The point wasn’t enough to lift Celtic off the foot of the table, and at the top there was a first set-back for leaders Maryport Athletic.

The reigning champions were held to a goalless draw at Wigton Harriers.

Their nearest rivals Unisun Athletic are just a point behind with a game in hand after a 6-2 win at Cockermouth.

Six separate scorers netted for Unisun – Tom McDonald, Kinglsey Grandison, Gweorge Carter, Ryan Abba, Jake Nicholson and Dave Nelson.

Ben Rathbone and Jyran Bertram were on target for Cockermouth.

In the other Premier Division game Workington Juniors defeated Aspatria 4-0.

Shane Roe and Matty Stephenson hit a brace apiece for the Juniors.

Three teams remain unbeaten in Division One but Dearham United and Northbank have a game in hand over Windscale Reserves who are a point clear.

Windscale collected their second draw in six matches when they were held 3-3 at Northbank.

Charlie Thomson (2) and Thomas Towns scored for the Carlisle side with Jack Harrison (2) and Sam Wordsworth responding for Windscale.

Dearham United took advantage to move joint second when they beat Miners Development 5-0.

Jack Brown (2), Aaron Lister, Oliver Scott and Lewis Manchester were the scorers.

Cockermouth first team had lost 6-2 but the reserves won by the same score at Unisun Youth Development.

Troy Paterson, Ewan Harrison, Luke Bewsher-Cannon, Dean Stevens, Max Pickering and Ash Dixon notched the goals while Ellis Morgan and Jay McCormick netted for the hosts.

In a close game at Silloth th home side were just shaded by Whitehaven Amateurs reserves 2-1.

Jackson Slack netted for the home side but two goals from Shane Tyson won it for the west Cumbrians.

In a ten goal bonanza at Bransty the home side beat Carlisle City Development 6-4.

Ethan Thornton, Jacob Hodgson, Chris Armstrong, Paddy Gaffney, CJ Irvine and Harvey Law were Bransty’s goalscorers.

City replied through Mustapha Badjie (3) and Alex Hunter.
